Welcome to CSA 2012

What it is:  Community supported agriculture is a way for you to become more involved in your community by supporting your local farmers. In exchange for paying for your farm share in advance, you receive fresh picked vegetables throughout the season. You will recieve a portion of the weekly produce harvest just one day after it was picked.

How it works: The produce will be cleaned, packed in a box, and delivered to the pick-up location you choose each week. Produce boxes are available for pick up on Wednesday. You will have the opportunity to view a list of the items to be harvested on Sunday evening on our website or email. You can request specific items you prefer for the week by emailing us by Tuesday afternoon. We will do our best to fulfill your requests but cannot guarantee exact orders. You may contact us if you will not be able to pick up your produce that week. If you are planning on going on vacation you may have a friend or neighbor pick up your produce. If you contact us ahead of time we will make special arrangements for you to get your produce. Please be aware we will not be held responsible for items that do not get picked-up. Leftover items will be donated to the host at the pick-up site. The produce will be delivered in our wax boxes so please bring a bag to remove your items from the box. We will ask that the boxes not be taken home.

Our Farm: We are a small farm that specializes in growing unique vegetables and greens. You can expect to have mostly greens in the beginning of the season. In mid season the greens become sparse due to the hot weather. We grow a lot of greens because they are nutritious, but also because they are a sustainable crop. In addition, we grow unique colors and varieties of the vegetables and provide an array of heirloom varieties. Therefore our CSA is targeted towards members who are adventurous in the kitchen and with their palate. Our CSA is designed to have a strong relationship with the farmer and the consumer through regular communication. We welcome and encourage volunteer hours from our members. It is a participatory way to create a close bond with your food and your farmers.

Vegetable Share: Please click on the Vegetable Availability Chart above or visit our blog to see what we grow. Note that the produce we provide is seasonal (fresh/local). For example, we will not be able to provide spinach in the middle of summer. A full share share receives 8 "items" per week and a half share receives 4 items . An item is a bunch or unit of produce which we package. We try to match this unit to what you would find in the grocery store. Some examples are:

* 2lbs potato
* 1 head leattuce
* 1 bag salad mix
* 2lbs tomato
* 1lb peppers
* 1.5lbs carrots or beets
* 1lb bunch greens such as kale or chard
* 2lbs cucumber or summer squash
* 1lb beans

What makes our CSA unique from other CSA is that we generally stick to the units above and the number of items in a box.
If we have extra produce you will find it listed on our weekly email and you will have to order extras. This gives the member a choice of having extra vegetables instead of overwhelming their kitchens. To see a history of our offerings please see visit our blog.

How many people does a full or half share feed?
This is a commonly asked question. This answer all depends on the member s diet, lifestyle and commitment to using the vegetables. We have single members who enjoy a full share and families of 4 who are satisfied with a half share.
